History of America Got Talent

America’s Got Talent was developed by Simon Cowell, creator of XFactor and executive at Sony Music. He aspired to produce a talent show far greater than anything ever seen on television. After working closely with Fremantle and Syco Entertainment on the development of America’s Got Talent, Simon Cowell decided not to judge the new show, instead of taking on the role of executive producer.

Brandy Norwood, David Hasselhoff, and Morgan agreed to participate. as judges for the inaugural season, while Cowell and his producers hired Regis Philbin to host the show. The first season was a success, prompting NBC to place further season orders and ITV to contact Simon Cowell to resume production of the UK version in 2007.

With Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent being so successful, Cowell accepted offers for the competition and its framework, which led to the creation of the Got Talent brand.
