This is the 15th season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and a-movin’ and a-shakin’ as it moves from VH1 to MTV.
The Emmy-winning reality show has a record number of contestants this time around, with 16 new queens competing for the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar and a $200,000 prize.
In addition to RuPaul Charles as host, returning judges Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, and Ross Mathews return, along with new judge Ts Madison.
RuPaul’s Drag Race: What Is It?
In RuPaul’s Drag Race, drag queen superstars compete in challenges and performances for the ultimate crown presented by RuPaul. Among the most recognizable drag performers, RuPaul is the queen of drag – as Jimmy Fallon hilariously discovered.
As host of RuPaul’s Drag Race since 2009, RuPaul and the show’s creative team have been nominated for 39 Emmy Awards, winning 24 of them. It has launched the careers of drag queen competitors like Trixie Mattel and Katya.
Drag performances were once limited to New York City clubs in the 1980s and 1990s, but they have become mainstream thanks to RuPaul’s Drag Race and its access to millions of viewers worldwide.
There have since been multiple successful iterations of the show, such as Drag Race Canada, Drag Race France, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, and others.
