The show’s first, and so far only, the season consisted of eight episodes, which aired on NBC between March 21 and May 9, 2022. Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson host the show.
The 56 entries were split into five qualifying rounds, with the top three songs determined by public voting and the top two chosen by a panel of judges from each round, advancing to one of two semi-finals. The broadcasts also sent two “The Trade Picks” to the semifinals.
Four public voting songs and one jury song from each semi-final were then submitted to the final of ten contestants. Oklahoma won the first season of the contest with the song “Wonderland performed by Alexa.
NBC organized promotion for the series, including a commercial during the Super Bowl and a giveaway for listeners on iHeartRadio stations. Reception for the first season was mixed, with many critics noting that it failed to live up to its Eurovision origins.
